Wedding Story: Cheryl Lynn Campbell and Oran Bryant Garrett | Lifestyle

Former Cheryl Lynn Campbell and Oran Brian Garrett married on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. The wedding and reception took place at the Sculpture Courtyard, opposite the Stateside Vodka Distillery in the Northern Liberties.

The Garrett and his wife have a simple garden wedding theme with a daytime brunch. Brunch is their favorite meal and I wanted to incorporate it into my celebration. Their colors were gold, white and green. The flowers for the wedding reception were presented by Jean Brown of Brandy Wine, Maryland. The flowers for the ceremony were provided by the decorator Collectible Treats. Heather McBride Photography provided wedding and reception photography services. Jeff Bien Aime acted as a videographer and coordinated the wedding live stream. Venue specialist MG helped the couple secure a venue for their special occasion.

The gown she wore wasn’t the gown she first chose and bought. As I scrolled through the dress website, I noticed a beautiful dress after I had already bought another gown. Cheryl returned to the site and continued to visit, and every time she visited the site, she became more and more fond of it. A champagne-colored V-neck and lace tulle illusion sleeve wedding dress. The wedding was scheduled for November, so she wanted a long-sleeved gown. So she went to buy the dress she really wanted. I was nervous because it was a dress from overseas. I couldn’t try it on, so I was worried if it would fit. Thankfully, only a few changes were needed.

Oran wore a commemorative pin on his black tie in honor of his deceased mother. Cheryl gave it to him on the eve of the wedding as a way to ensure she was with her on a special day.

Cheryl’s friend Daniel Shaw Ogresby sang her in the aisle with a beautiful performance of Crisette Michel’s “Golden”.


Originally from Maryland, Cheryl Lynn Campbell is the daughter of Diane White and Marvin S. White Sr. She was born and raised in Lexington Park, Maryland, about two hours south of Washington, DC. She first moved to Philadelphia in 1994 and lived there for several years after her father became ill until she returned home. She returned to Philly in 2005 and has been here ever since. Cheryl lived in West Philly when she first moved to Philadelphia, but now lives in the southwest. A mother and grandmother of five children have a sixth child and work as a real estate manager for an apartment in the Octavia Hill Association. Her hobbies include community services, music, concerts and journaling. She describes herself as a foodie and is a big fan of Jill Scott.


Carolyn Garrett and Preston Garrett, son of Charles Howell, Oran Bryant Garrett, works at Temple University as Administrator of College Housing and Student Affairs. Oran was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. He first moved to Maryland in 2005, before officially moving to Philadelphia in February 2019, and before officially moving to Philadelphia in February 2019, in 2005. After moving to State University and working for three years, he believes he moved to the East Coast and Philadelphia. 9 Months. He currently lives in southwestern Philadelphia with Cheryl.

Oran graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, India. He then earned a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He is currently working on a PhD in higher education at Temple. His hobby is golf. He’s left-handed, so it feels like he’s not really making a course. He also loves traveling. Oran enjoys community services, listens to music, and enjoys dining.

Wedding party:

The couple had a very small wedding party. The board member was Pastor David Melvin Jr., Deliverance Temple. The Matron of Honor was Cheryl’s best friend Katrina Corple for over a decade. Cheryl literally sees Corple as another Mr. sister.

The best man was Oran’s best friend Andrew Goletsky. The two met as colleagues in Maryland in 2005 and have been close friends ever since.

Cheryl has four children. Raven Gantt is her eldest daughter. Cheryl’s son Sydney White escorted her to the aisle and let go of her. Cheryl’s middle daughter Nadia Campbell and her youngest daughter Zoe Campbell stood in honor.

The hostesses were Mikayla and Mirah Anderson, the daughters of the Honorary Mistress and Cheryl’s niece.

How they met

They met at Tinder in May 2018. Olan lived at State College at the time, but was visiting a friend in Philadelphia when matched on a dating app. In fact, Oran was matched when he was away from the city to go home at the end of the weekend.

He talked to Cheryl on the phone for three and a half hours when he got home. By next Tuesday, they were talking for hours in video chat. Oran drove back to Philly for his first date next Saturday and hit it off quickly. Usually, dates end with a first kiss, but their date begins with a first kiss. And the first date changed to the first weekend. It was as close as possible to “love at first sight”. They said they knew from the beginning that they were destined to be together.


Oran proposed in September 2019. He and Cheryl attended a concert by Mary J. Blige and Nath at the Liacouras Center on the Temple University campus. Upon returning home from the concert, Oran knelt in the living room and proposed while his two daughters were watching. According to Cheryl, it was a perfect intimate moment.


Meals were served at The Taste You’re Look For Restaurant in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.

The couple had the opportunity to get married in the middle of the week of Veterans Day, because they liked the idea of ​​getting married in 11 to 11 days. After deciding to live a little further away, they We secured a tent and had an outdoor wedding in November. Thankfully, this day was warm. There was some shower, but the lovely bride said, “I will,” and it didn’t start until it stopped before the reception started. DJ Big A James, who worked with Oran at Pennsylvania State University, provided wedding and reception entertainment. Happy couples will never forget their first dance as a couple in Leela James’s “All Over Again”.


The newlyweds went to Aruba this April. They used this vacation as an opportunity to get a lot of sun, fun and relaxation, and to focus on each other away from the stress of everyday life.


“When Cheryl turned the corner to walk the aisle with Raven and Sydney, the first time I saw her, I couldn’t stop seeing her. She was brilliant and literally illuminated the room. My wife has a beautiful soul both inside and out, “he said.

“We talked for at least two hours each night and met again on the weekends,” Cheryl said. “We were so interested in each other that we didn’t care about the distance, how much distance we would do, or how much time we would have to spend,” she said.
