Combine a butcher, geologist, homesteader, hunter, and hemp farm manager; top it with hearty dash of humor and age for 48 years, and the product is Dr. Brian Bird of the New York Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers.
Bird grew up in Binghamton, then attended Western Michigan U in Kalamazoo, Mich., and earned a PhD in geology with a focus on glacial geology. His wife’s job led them back to Upstate New York in 2004. Bird lives in Whitehall, as he fondly said “nestled between the Adirondacks and Green Mountains.”
He has hunting memories scattered from here to Michigan.
