Fairport Music Festival sees great opening night after 1-year break

Last year the pandemic put the festival on pause, but now the music is back on track, and festival-goers returned for some good old rock and roll.

Opening night for the 2021 Fairport Music Festival got off to a great start: Six stages, 40 bands, and two days of live music. 

“We’ve got music. I’m running into people I haven’t seen in a couple years in some cases. It’s just great. It’s gonna really be a good weekend,” said Fairport resident Jim Franklin.

The Tokyo Olympics officially kicked off on Friday, and with no audience in the stands the atmosphere was understandably subdued. Still, athletes really showed out for the parade of nations, the world’s most geographically diverse runway show.

CHERRY VALLEY – The biennial Cherry Valley Sculpture Trail will open with a viewing and launch party scheduled for Friday, July 2.

Jane Sapinsky, executive director of Cherry Valley Artworks, said this year’s sculpture trail stands out because of the “beautiful pieces” and said that it is a “COVID-friendly activity.”

There are 24 sculptures, ranging from small ones to half-ton sized.

Lifestyle Building hosts grand opening in Great Falls

GREAT FALLS — A renovated building in downtown Great Falls is already buzzing with activity, as a grand opening and ribbon-cutting was held on Friday for the MTC Lifestyle Building. The building at 721 Central Avenue used to be home to Rod’s Music and Cassiopeia Books.

Now it’s home to several companies including Lifestyle Real Estate Firm; T & C Higher Development, a property management firm; Waddell & Reed and LPL Financial Investment Firm; and Haute Hive, a co-working space for individuals and executives who may be traveling or just need a space to conduct business.
