Happy Onam Wishes: Onam has begun for another year. The famous Keralite harvest festival is celebrated annually by the Malayalees in Kerala and people around the globe. Celebrations take place for about ten days and drop in the Malayalam calendar month of Chingam.
Onam festival celebrates the return from the underworld of King Mahabali, which was considered a great ruler. It’s said that the great king was sent into the hell from Vishnu, but was given an allowance to visit his folks once a year Onam.
Happy Onam Wishes: Legend has it that whenever Mahabali ruled, there was no discrimination based on caste, and there was no corruption or crime.
The Kerala government made it a formal vacation in the 1960s. The area in Kochi, known as Thrikkakkara, is especially significant throughout the festival, due to its temple. There are public holidays in Kerala every year for the festival.
The highlight of the festival for many is the Onam sadya. Vegetarian food can be served en masse in the community, in restaurants or homes, and is presented on a banana leaf.
